Salary range, depending on qualifications: $81,816-$146,880
Plus Agency paid 8% contribution to deferred compensation

TAMC is a countywide transportation-planning agency responsible for developing long range transportation plans and distributing state and federal transportation grants. The Transportation Agency for Monterey County seeks a Transportation Engineer who can independently manage the delivery of projects related to the Measure X program, as well as other priority regional projects, as designated by the Board of Directors. The position will be filled at the appropriate level within the Transportation Engineer job classification (Associate, Senior or Principal) based on qualifications. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
An experienced project manager with a record of project delivery success, working with a variety of transportation agencies, including Caltrans, utilities and local governments.
An initiative taker who can follow through in timely manner on detailed assignments.
An enthusiastic, positive person who has a pleasant customer service attitude.
A team player that can maintain effective interpersonal relationships with staff and the public.
A good communicator with effective writing and oral presentation skills, and experience in dealing with the public.
Serve as project manager for the most complex projects that the Agency is responsible for delivering under the Measure X, State Transportation Improvement Program, and other funding sources in coordination with partner agencies.
Perform professional transportation engineering work in the field and office on a variety of complex projects; may act as resident engineer on construction projects.
Oversee consultant or contractor work and prepare requests for proposals, consultant selection documentation or advertisements for bids, instructions to bidders, detailed specifications and contract bonds.
Serve as a mentor to other transportation project managers within the Transportation Agency and provides transportation engineering assistance to member jurisdictions;
Prepare or oversee consultant preparation preliminary studies, reports, designs, calculations, cost estimates, maps, and plans.
Make presentations before public, government decision-making bodies.
Experience with project management and delivery of transportation projects from inception to open to the public, including corridor studies, project initiation documents, environmental review, engineering design, preparation of plans and specs, construction management and construction;
Knowledge of and experience with Caltrans project development requirements, and state and federal procurement processes;
Use or oversee consultants’ use of transportation-related computer software to model transportation scenarios to evaluate the impacts of activities or to identify possible solutions to transportation problems.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing, including preparation of staff reports, studies, and plans utilizing technical and statistical information, computer systems and software applications for data analysis.
Ability to convey complex engineering information and transportation data into easy-to- understand oral presentations before members of the public, governing bodies and the Transportation Agency Board of Directors.
Education equivalent to a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering;
Minimum of three and one half years experience in transportation engineering for appointment at the Assistant Engineer level; increasingly longer experience required for appointment at Senior and Principal levels; some management experience required for appointment at the Principal level.
Registration as a Civil or Traffic Engineer in California.
