SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Quality & Technical Service Engineer will be the primary technical contact for customers in the Surface Protective Film Market. In this role, the engineer will assist operations, regional sales and technology by addressing and resolving highly complex quality issues and /or changes in higher standards of quality of current commercial products. The quality engineer will also support development engineers in technical services to customers related to new product /processes and/or specifications and introduction and commercialization of new products in the regions.
Develop, implement and control new quality initiatives and defect monitoring system upgrades to enhance current quality systems effectiveness. Run projects, capital and otherwise to implement new testing technologies. Minimize defects outflowing to customers by coordinating preventative measures across cross-functional disciplines at multiple manufacturing sites. Supports plant quality managers to maintain improvements.
Provides technical expertise to management relative to quality issues. Identifies quality improvement needs, proposes solutions, communicates requirements, and leads implementation. Leads inter-plant benchmarking initiatives.
Conduct root cause analyses of assigned complex quality issues using six-sigma methodology with cross functional teams to provide engineered solutions. Write and communicate continuous improvement reports and /or change notifications to internal and external customers. Work independently requiring minimal supervision.
Coach/mentor plant engineers and quality technicians at manufacturing sites in developing appropriate SPC (Statistical Process Control) procedures for both product parameters and process conditions.
Serve as an expert field liaison to operations in order to enhance the understanding, prevention and timely correction of quality issues.
Identify and communicate product benefits/advantages, relative to competitive materials. Suggest improvement opportunities to mitigate gaps in new and commercial product quality or performance attributes. Assist sales/marketing in defining these benefits during initial customer calls. Assist in gathering competitive intelligence.
Coordinate and attend customer trials, identifying key performance measures necessary for the successful performance of Surface Protective films. Identify and communicate film performance requirements relative to customer needs as input to product improvement efforts. Develop house of quality (QFD) to transform soft CTQs to quantifiable and measurable performance attributes. Position serves as a field liaison to product development personnel.
Identify and understand critical to quality customer requirements and communicate these requirements to internal product development, production, sales and marketing personnel. This information would assist in the development of trial plans, film specifications and packaging specifications.
Contribute novel ideas to Global R&D Team to define new product opportunities, including identification of critical to customer attributes, using customer feedback, observing customer needs and knowledge of masking films and competitive material technology trends. Assist Global R&D Team to develop new products and with regional product qualifications, both internally and externally.
NOTE: Position may require frequent travel, both domestic and international
B.S. in Engineering or Science
M.S. in Engineering
Five - Seven years manufacturing, including quality systems implementation.
Plastics manufacturing experience.
Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
Six Sigma Training / Experience.
Systems reliability experience.
Foreign Language: Mandarin, Japanese and/or Korean
