A post-doctoral position is available in the nexus of Heat stress physiology/ Plant phenomics / Plant Breeding with a focus on heat stress phenotyping in oat. The overarching aim of this position is to contribute to developing a physiologically-informed high-throughput heat stress phenotyping approach that is relevant for oat breeding. The post-doctoral research associate will work with an interdisciplinary team with expertise in crop physiology, agronomy, genomics and breeding. In close collaboration with the team, the postdoctoral associate is expected to:
1) Lead the development and deployment of field-based phenotyping approaches that take advantage of current knowledge in the field of heat stress physiology.
2) Generate novel knowledge about the basis of heat stress tolerance in oat.
3) Screen mapping and breeding populations for heat stress tolerance traits in multiple locations across the state of Minnesota.
4) Generate high-quality, phenotypic data, and conduct genetic analyses.
5) Lead the preparation and publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts and present research findings to target audiences.
The associate will also have the opportunity to pursue professional development goals including mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students, delivering guest lectures, co-writing grants, and involvement in various outreach and networking activities.
Ph.D. in Crop/Plant physiology, Plant Physiological Ecology, Agronomy or a relevant field. Candidates with a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Applied Quantitative Genetics with experience in phenotyping of physiological traits are welcome to apply.
1) Basic knowledge/ training is required in the field of abiotic stress tolerance, ideally heat stress.
2) Experience/expertise in high-throughput phenotyping approaches.
3) Experience/expertise in multivariate statistical analysis of large datasets.
4) Experience/expertise in writing R scripts.
5) Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
6) Excellent interpersonal skills.
7) Evidence of scholarly productivity.
1) Expertise/experience in the field of heat stress physiology.
2) Experience in electronics, sensor development, instrument building.
3) Experience in high-throughput image analysis.
In addition to the above, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated high motivation, strong ethics code, potential for leadership, potential for creativity and a strong drive to deliver results and publish in a timely manner. The postdoctoral associate will lead the progress of the project through a set of milestones.
Ideally, the position will begin April 1st or May 1st. Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled. However, applications submitted before or on March 31st will be given priority.
Additional Salary Information: This is a 100% full time, 3-year, postdoctoral appointment renewable annually, based upon satisfactory job performance. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Women and members of historically under-represented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
