The City of Hawthorne, CA, seeks a director of building and safety/plan check engineer. The department consists of six full-time employees and an annual budget of approximately $1.1M. The ideal candidate should possess excellent management and supervisory skills and a strong background in structural design and calculations of various types of buildings in California, and be thoroughly versed in the latest adopted versions of the California building codes. The position requires: a BA degree in civil or structural engineering or related field; eight years of increasingly responsible experience in design or review of building construction plans or structural or civil engineering plan checking; registration as a P.E. in the state of California; and an ICCBO certification as a plans examiner.
