The Design Lab at UC San Diego, in collaboration with departments in the Jacobs School of Engineering, seeks candidates for tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor rank. The Design Lab at UC San Diego is a new initiative, established by the Chancellor to become a major international center for human-centered design, with the focus upon design as a way of thinking, especially dealing with a people-centered approach to complex sociotechnical systems.
The Design Lab works with departments and divisions throughout the University. This ad welcomes applicants for a position in a department within the Jacobs School of Engineering, including Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, and Structural Engineering. Companion ads are available for positions in the School of Medicine and Division of Social Sciences.
REQUIRED Assistant Professor candidates must have completed a terminal degree (or advancement to candidacy)--such as a PhD, MD or equivalent doctoral degree and show great promise in teaching, service and research.
PREFERRED Preferred candidates will
have published human-centered research in conference and/or journal articles in highly-regarded peer-reviewed venues;
be able to demonstrate the potential for teaching excellence as they will be expected to supervise and teach graduate and undergraduate students in design-related courses;
demonstrate the highest standards of scholarship and professional activity; and
contribute to a campus climate that supports equity, inclusion, and diversity.
An interdisciplinary perspective and experience with multiple methodologies is highly valued. Candidates with experience with or willingness to engage in activities that contribute to diversity and inclusion are especially encouraged to apply. Appointments are expected to begin July 1, 2019 and salary is commensurate with experience and based on the University of California pay scales. Applications received by February 18th will be given full consideration. The position will remain open until filled.
