The Director of the Steel Utility Pole Coalition will lead the Coalition, with general guidance, to drive increased market for steel utility poles; and thus, establish steel as the material of choice in utility pole applications.
(This position is a remote opportunity for anyone living in the contiguous United States. It can be a full-time contract or employee position, depending on the candidate's preference.)
Generate/Provide initial consultation for sales leads within electric utilities
Develop opportunities for and manage training workshops for operations supervisors, managers, and lineman within electric utilities
Update existing utility pole training and marketing materials (publications and online)
Present educational information and network at local, regional, and national utility training workshops/tradeshows/conferences
Manage/Increase Coalition membership consisting of industry associations, utility pole manufacturers, galvanizers, and other associated organizations in the utility products industry.
Research & Planning
Develop/Implement a strategic business plan and annual budget
Investigate/Research market competition as well as the needs/wants of present and potential customers.
Document market share and conditions and track trend changes.
Achieve target goals including program funding and market share.
Comprehensive understanding of the electric utility marketplace including specific knowledge of electrical utility product approval and procurement processes.
Strong background in utility pole products/operations within the electrical utility industry
Familiarity with the differences between sub transmission and distribution utility pole systems, tools, equipment, installation, and maintenance requirements.
Ability to effectively present information to decision top management, public groups, and customers in a group setting as well as interface with decision makers one-on-one.
Develop/Strengthen relationships with established and new customers.
Willingness to travel
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; analytical/problem-solving skills; demonstrated experience in managing relationships; ability to work with minimal daily direction
Knowledge of key players within the utility pole industry
Ability to respond to inquiries related to steel utility poles and electrical distribution systems.
College degree or industry related courses and certifications
Experience within a leadership role and/or experience training/supervising linemen
5 years of experience in electrical transmission and/or distribution line projects in one of the following capacities: project/construction manager, journeyman lineman, or similar function
Telecommuting is allowed.
