DEFINITION:To serve as section manager of assigned section within the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department; to supervise professional and technical engineering staff; to perform advanced level professional engineering work in area of assignment; and to provide responsible professional level staff assistance to the Deputy Public works Director/City Engineer and Public Works Director.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Receives general direction from the Deputy Public Works Director/City Engineer. Exercises supervision over professional and technical engineering and inspection staff.
A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Six years of increasingly responsible professional civil or structural engineering experience including two years supervisory and project management experience.
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering.
License or Certificate:
Possession of Certificate of Registration as a professional engineer in the State of California.
Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
