The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a motivated individual to assist with the UDOT Traffic Signal Operations Program statewide and be responsible for the operations of the traffic signals in Region 1 and Region 3 Traffic Signals. You will supervise direct reports and provide leadership to other employees. You will also work with various divisions within UDOT, local governments and the public to ensure that the Traffic Signal Operations Program in Utah is state-of-the-art. You will be involved in various levels of traffic signal performance measures and will help move the UDOT traffic signal program to a world-class level.
Principle Duties As the Statewide Traffic Signal Engineer, you will:
Manage traffic signal operations (signal timing and coordination) activities to ensure that UDOT's traffic program is State-of-the-art.
Develop, implement and fine-tune new signal timing and coordination plans for time-of-day and/or peer-to-peer or adaptive operations.
Manage signal timing for special events, incident management and construction activities.
Integrate and fine-tune traffic adaptive systems.
Manage various performance measures for the traffic signal program.
Ensure a high level of cooperation with the UDOT regions and other municipalities.
Coordinate with local jurisdictions and other stake holders on activities.
Manage the response to citizen complaints and suggestions.
Assist with standardization of traffic signal operations and maintenance procedures. Ensure standardization of traffic operations statewide, in compliance with UDOT standards/guidelines and MUTCD requirements.
Manage timing routine maintenance activities.
Develop, implement and manage training programs for other engineers, technicians, consultants and contractors in traffic signal activities.
Supervises subordinate personnel including: hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.

The Ideal Candidate The best candidate for this position:
Must be be registered as a professional engineer in Utah in accordance with the provisions of Utah Code Annotated 58-22
Will have least two years of engineering experience following licensure as a PE.
This position may be filled as an Engineer III for those who do not have two years of post PE experience. In order to fill the position as an Engineer III, you must have a Utah PE license and at least one year of post PE experience.

May need to travel within the state of Utah wherever traffic signals are located. Most of travel will be within the Wasatch Front (Regions 1 & 3).
Working Conditions - Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
Physical Requirements - Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Region Director/Group Leader.
