The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has a full-time opportunity for a Project Engineer/Project Manager (Environmental Engineer 3) in Portland, Oregon.
As a Project Engineer / Project Manager, you will serve and provide lead as a senior project engineer / project manager on a dynamic and innovative team designing and overseeing site investigations, feasibility studies, remedial design, construction, and operation of technically intense cleanup actions at Oregon’s most challenging and complex hazardous substance (cleanup) sites. You will use creativity, as well as technical and managerial expertise to ensure protection of public health, safety, and improvement of environmental quality that directly and measurably benefits the public. You will also provide technical assistance to Regional and Headquarters staff regarding technological and public policy improvements or new developments. We are looking for:
4 years of engineering experience and a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field, such as environmental, chemical, civil, or mechanical (or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
2 years of experience in an environmental protection/control program.
A current PE. If you are currently registered as a professional engineer in another state, you must be able to obtain your Oregon registration within 6 months of employment in order to retain this appointment.
Experience in sediment remediation – permitting, design, and construction oversight; experience in hydrodynamic and sediment transport modeling.
Experience managing environmental cleanup actions at hazardous substance sites
Experience with GIS and open source software; skill in coding.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience communicating complex technical information effectively and clearly with a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to write clear and concise reports describing complex investigations, evaluations, and regulatory determinations.
Project management experience guiding and overseeing Oregon and Federal cleanup sites; experience working with local, State, Tribal, and/or Federal environmental programs.
Experience preparing or reviewing feasibility studies following EPA and/or DEQ Environmental Cleanup regulations for soil, groundwater, and/or sediments.
