Our Ontario Line Office within Capital Project Group is seeking to hire multiple Managers, reporting into Senior Project Managers. The Managers are accountable for the project management of capital infrastructure projects associated with Project Subways including the planning, scope, design, procurement, construction and commissioning phases. Manages a team of staff and oversees consultants and contractors work. Actively leads all activities to ensure achievement of objectives according to defined timelines, budget and approved project deliverables.
What will I be doing?
Manages project progress, analyses current and future work activities to identify deficiencies and opportunities for efficiencies; recommends and implements solutions
Monitors project safety to mitigate risk, ensure compliance with policies and procedures, and initiate improvements, resolutions and/or preventative measures
Integrates multiple corporate requirements into projects, including technical design, environmental assessment conditions, community and municipal commitments, Passenger Charter, design excellence, and property acquisition conditions; analyzing potential conflicts, delays or issues resulting from integration of corporate requirements with overall project plan
Consults and collaborates with the applicable Centre(s) of Excellence to determine and incorporate requirements and obtain sign-off at agreed-upon intervals to ensure projects across the system are developed, implemented and integrated consistently, efficiently, safely, and in a coordinated manner
Develops recommendations for the packaging of work and type of contract; analyses consultant proposals and recommends modifications consistent with business objectives
Oversees consultant and contractor scope and quality of work, identifies existing and potential issues, and initiates corrective action to avoid serious project delays or budget impacts; determines what requires escalation and initiates appropriate action
Manages project scope and change orders including negotiating, processing and analysing cost and/or schedule impacts
Identifies issues, risks and problems; collaborates with Senior Managers/Directors to ensure corrective action is implemented
Leads project commissioning and closeout activities with contractors to verify alignment with contract terms and conditions as well as corporate quality requirements; prepares comprehensive closeout reports
Works closely with Operations teams to commission and transition infrastructure work, ensuring all acceptance criteria (e.g. final design, installation, testing) are fulfilled and required documentation (e.g. blueprints, drawings, technical specifications) is delivered prior to final signature for acceptance and transfer
Oversees day-to-day project progress and spending; preparing status reports; participates in related meetings to provide status updates and discuss solutions to issues
Recommends additions/revisions to the formulation of standards and guidelines to ensure overall project management excellence
What skills & qualifications do I need?
Completion of a degree in applied science, engineering, or a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
Minimum eight (8) years’ project management experience related to the planning, design, and construction of transit facilities, station infrastructure and related works
PMP (Project Management Professional) is an asset
Knowledge of railway corridor and/or subway infrastructure
Project management methodologies to manage construction projects from start to completion; knowledgeable of procurement processes in order to identify opportunities for improvements and cost savings
Knowledge of Contract Law and standard contract forms, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Environmental Assessment Act, and the requirements of the Professional Engineers Act
Knowledge of Human Resources legislation (e.g. Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, etc.) to monitor and manage employees and contractors, including experience in the application of collective agreement provisions
Understands theories, principles and practices of civil and architectural design and construction; skill and proficiency in broad phases of engineering application
Knowledge and application of energy efficient design and sustainability (LEED)
Budget management to plan and monitor departmental budgets against limitations
Leadership ability to coach, mentor and manage a team of technical project professionals.
Problem solving and analytical skills to evaluate and address contractor and supplier performance issues and recommend plans for improvement; to evaluate and address program impediments with the potential to disrupt or jeopardize the project and/or corporate objectives
Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills to liaise with all levels within the organization and on construction sites; to work effectively with specialists across multiple sectors; to prepare project correspondence and technical reports
A valid Ontario Class G driver’s license is required to travel to various site locations, meetings, operational facilities, etc. (approximately 5%). Must meet and maintain the corporate standard for a good driving record
