The Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Biomedical Engineering. The position will be recruited through the Centre for Bioengineering Research and Education (CBRE) and be appointed in one of the departments in the Schulich School of Engineering. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2021 or a mutually agreed upon date.
The successful applicant is expected to align with the University of Calgary's Growth Through Focus strategic vision and support the strategic academic and research priorities of transdisciplinary scholarship, future-focused program delivery, and deeper community integration. They will also support the three priorities of enhancing global research impact, expanding access to engineering and enriching the student experience as outlined in the Schulich School of Engineering strategic plan “Catalyst for a Connected World”.
The primary research focus of the candidate should be related to novel technologies for health monitoring. Research on sensor material and systems is desired. This includes technologies such as biosensors, wearables, human-computer interfaces and advanced imaging. Integrating novel sensors with wireless powering, data transmission and analysis will drive the next generation of sensing and monitoring techniques to accelerate precision health and personalized medicine.
The successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to develop and teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses on topics related to biomedical engineering. The successful applicant will actively contribute to teaching, curriculum development, graduate student supervision and mentoring, and is expected to provide service in support of the Department, School, University and Profession. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, computer engineering, engineering physics, or a closely related discipline. The successful candidate at the Assistant Professor level must demonstrate evidence of a track record of publications in high quality journals, potential for securing external research funding, and effectiveness in teaching at the University level.
Candidates should have strong oral and written English communication skills. All candidates must be eligible for registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta ((APEGA).
