| ASSISTANT PROFESSOR Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering South Dakota State University The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at South Dakota State University invites applications and nominations for a 9-month, full-time, benefit eligible, tenure-track position. This position is at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Geotechnical Engineering and the appointment begins in August of 2021. The department is currently enjoying new and renovated facilities, growth in graduate education and research, and strong ties to its regional constituents. Applications are invited in any area of Geotechnical Engineering. Candidates with expertise in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: advanced field and laboratory geotechnical testing, computational modeling of geotechnical systems and foundations, and geohazards risk assessment and management. This position is supervised by the Department Head of Civil and Environmental Engineering. SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to and/or coordinate course offerings that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations. RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses, advise undergraduate and graduate students, guide student research, develop an externally funded research program in the applicant’s area of expertise, and participate in outreach and service activities. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and enhance the testing infrastructure of an existing geotechnical and soil mechanics laboratory. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or closely related field with emphasis on Geotechnical Engineering received by expected start date.
- Have at least one earned degree at any level in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program or provide evidence of teaching coursework at an ABET accredited program.
- Effective verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Commitment to professional activities.
- Professional engineering registration or the potential for becoming registered.
- Knowledge of the practice of civil engineering.
- Focus or interest is in geotechnical engineering.
- Potential to establish an externally funded research program.
