This is professional and technical work related to engineering support for Traffic Engineering, Transportation, Maintenance of Traffic (MOT), sidewalks, American with Disabilities Act (ADA), review of construction plans, and other technical projects as assigned.
Job Description:
Transportation
Prepare and report on miscellaneous inquires and traffic studies including Sight Distance Investigations, Traffic Control Devices, Speed limit, Parking Prohibition, and No Through Truck Traffic.
Prepare and make presentations to the Traffic Advisory Council (TAC)
Represent Traffic Engineering at the Community Traffic Safety Team monthly meetings.
Investigate citizen’s concerns/inquiries and resolve issues.
Interacts with the public to address complaints, concerns and questions.
Review of construction plans of projects impacting traffic operations or traffic control devices referred by Land Development Services and Capital Improvement.
Perform final roadway field inspection for acceptance by public works for maintenance.
Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)
Design and review MOT plans for road projects referred by Land Development Services, Capital Projects and Utilities.
Design and review MOT for public events.
Design and review MOT for road closures.
Crash Study Program
Procurement of crash data
Manage the County’s web-based Crash Data Management System and support its users.
Provide crash analysis and reports to internal and external customers.
Prepare the annual crash report.
Traffic Signals
Support traffic signal timing system and operation.
Support traffic signal related capital improvement projects.
Other Functions
Maintain Traffic Operations GIS data on Intranet.
Coordinate integration between CarteGraph, Maximo and GIS.
Coordination with GIS to create and maintain Traffic Engineering related GIS layers for Signs & Signals.
American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Design and field reviews.
Other duties as assigned.
Manages proactive assessments of fraud awareness, prevention, detection and risk mitigation activities in area of responsibility; oversees financial, compliance, operational and perform audits; reviews audit findings and ensures appropriate controls are established and implemented.
Traffic Engineer (Technical Specialist I) – A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or related engineering field. An equivalent combination of education and experience or technical engineering related project experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the degree, if candidates are not available that fully meet the minimum requirements of the position.
Traffic Engineer (Technical Specialist II) - A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or a highly related field. Must also have two (2) or more years of related civil engineering/project management experience. A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of required experience. Must have or be able to obtain EI (Engineer Intern) Certification within 12 months. Technical, engineering related project experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis, if candidates are not available that fully meet the minimum requirements of the position.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in construction and traffic management, Advanced Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification, Asset management software, Professional Engineer (P.E.) Certificate from the State of Florida Familiarity with Cartegraph.
Job Competencies: Microsoft Office Suite; MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Outlook. Familiarity with Cartograph is desired.
