This position is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Lake Washington School District transportation department to assure safe and efficient pupil transportation, routing, scheduling, in support of the school district’s instructional and activity programs for students. This position requires strong proven abilities in organizations, leadership and human relationships. The Transportation Manager supervises transportation staff including bus drivers, dispatchers, and other administrative staff. The Transportation Manager reports to the Director of Transportation.
SALARY:$126.060 per year, 261 days. This is an exempt position. Full benefit package available.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assists Transportation Director with review, development and implementation of students’ safe walking routes to school
Supervises and evaluates performance of Bus Drivers, Dispatchers, and Driver Trainer
Provides oversight of dispatch operations, route assignment & coordinates replacement buses and drivers
Attends Labor Management Meetings
Responds to complaints regarding drivers and provides additional coaching as needed
Oversees preparation and submission of state funding reports to ensure compliance with regulations and all eligible funding is received
Coordinates annual route bid process
Models and cultivates a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
Supports bus driver recruiting and hiring efforts
Provides support and guidance to drivers and school administrators in the event of student disciplinary issues
Assists Director in developing, implementing, and maintaining policies and procedures consistent with industry best practices and current laws
Performs other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of relevant state, federal, and district regulations, policies and procedures related to transportation industry, school buses and school transportation.
Knowledge of and highly skilled in the use of routing and other software systems.
Knowledge of fleet operations and equipment needs.
Knowledge of labor relations and employment law.
Skill in defusing emotion-charged situations and conflict resolution and make appropriate timely decisions.

High School diploma or equivalent;
At least four (4) years of transportation operations experience, including bus driving, dispatching, training, or supervising staff;
School district transportation experience strongly preferred;
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:
Valid Washington State driver's license, valid commercial driver's license with school bus and passenger endorsement (preferred), valid Department of Transportation physical card, valid First Aid and CPR certification. Driver Trainer Certification preferred or ability to obtain within one year of hire.

Lake Washington School District (LWSD) is located between Lake Washington and the Cascade Mountains. The district is east of Seattle and covers 76 square miles. LWSD is the public school district for the cities of Kirkland, Redmond and about half of Sammamish. On the north end of the district, some Bothell and Woodinville residents also attend our schools.
