The City of Corpus Christi, Texas is seeking an experienced Director of Public Works/Street Operations. Located 130 miles southeast of San Antonio, Corpus Christi is the Nueces County Seat and one of the largest seaports in the United States.
The Director of Public Works/Street Operations leads a team of highly skilled, competent, and passionate employees and is responsible for the effective, efficient, and responsive service delivery and management of city projects, including the Street Improvement Plan, Pavement Management System, and traffic engineering services. The director ensures the development and implementation of strategies, plans, and projects that align with the city’s mission, vision, objectives, and core values. The Director of Public Works/Street Operations supervises three Assistant Directors, a Senior Management Assistant, and indirectly supervises all Public Works employees.
The desired candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Public Administration or a closely related field, and a minimum of ten (10) years related professional experience in a public works function, of comparable, similar or larger size and service delivery model similar to the City of Corpus Christi. A valid Texas Driver’s License (TDL) or the ability to secure a TDL within 90 days of employment required. A master’s degree and Professional Engineering License preferred.
The salary range for this position is $145,000 - $160,000, depending upon the overall experience and qualifications of the selected finalist. Additionally, the Director will receive a $400/month vehicle allowance. The City of Corpus Christi offers a comprehensive, market competitive benefits package that includes 88+ vacation hours per year, 40 hours personal leave per year, 96 hours of sick leave per year, voluntary 457b deferred compensation plan, eight (8) Holidays, Flexible Spending Account or HSA options, City Employee Health & Wellness Clinic, City Employee Fitness Center, Tuition Reimbursement Programs.
