The WSDOT Multimodal Planning & Data Division has an exciting opportunity for a travel demand modeling and data analysis expert. If you are interested in fostering collaboration, taking on challenges, practicing innovation, and making a difference in supporting a safe, sustainable, and integrated multimodal transportation system, this is the job for you! This position will serve as the senior level expert providing direction and making tactical and strategic decisions on modeling and technical analysis to support WSDOT business areas, divisions, and regions. This position is responsible for leading and directing professional travel demand modelers and specialized consultant teams working on modeling projects. This highly technical work requires a specialized combination of education, experience, and expertise in travel data modeling and analysis, “Big Data” processing, and traffic simulation modeling. This position will provide expert advice on all facets of travel modeling for WSDOT and its partners.
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
Bachelor’s degree in transportation engineering, traffic engineering, civil engineering, transportation planning, urban planning, or related fields.
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in travel demand modeling and systems analysis and/or traffic simulation; OR Master’s with eight (8) years of experience OR Ph.D. in one of the above fields AND five (5) years of experience; OR any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with proven skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job.
Knowledge and hands-on experience in developing, interpreting, analyzing and applying travel demand forecasting and traffic simulation models such as EMME, VISUM, SYNCHRO, VISSIM, and DYNAMEQ or similar software platforms.
Experience in working with data mining, data analysis, probe vehicle data, NPMRDS, or similar database (INRIX, StreetLight, etc.).
Thorough understanding of “state of the art” travel demand forecasting, traffic simulation, traffic engineering analyses, and other transportation planning methodologies.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Basic computer programming skills, preferably in R/Python, GIS applications, and Visual Basic.
Understanding of traffic engineering principles and theories, Highway Capacity Manual procedures, signalized and non-signalized intersection optimization procedures, channelization, etc.
