The City is seeking a Sr. Civil Engineer - Streets Design. This position manages and performs professional level engineering work in the planning and design of the City’s Street Infrastructure; including streets, alleys, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, multiuse trails, bridges, street lights, and traffic signals. Prepares plans, specifications, and estimates for public construction projects. Performs annual street and alley ratings. Provides direction and supervision to Civil Engineer and Engineering Technicians.
The starting salary for this position is $78,707 - $107,931 based on qualifications and experience. The following are normal for the position but shall not be construed as exclusive or inclusive. Other related duties may be required and assigned.
Utilizes CAD for the preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for the repair, resurfacing, and reconstruction of City streets, alleys, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, parking lots, etc
Inspects and rates the condition of all public streets, alleys, and parking lots. Makes recommendations for their repair and replacement in accordance with a Complete Streets design methodology.
Prepares assessments for paving projects.
Prepares and presents public reports and other transportation information to various committees.
Participates in the Bike & Pedestrian and the Traffic Calming Steering committees
Coordinates and works closely with city utility engineers, surveyors, and inspectors in the preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates and contracts for public construction projects.
Works closely with the City Traffic and Electrical Department for planning, design, and construction of traffic signals and the street lighting system.
Participates in preconstruction meetings with contractors and other City departments.
Coordinates with City Construction Manager on inquiries or design changes during construction.
Oversees consultant bridge inspection program and manages design work of consultants on bridge resurfacing or reconstruction projects.
Oversees DOT STP and LRIP programs, and manages work of consultant design of DOT STP projects.
Supervises and provides direction to Civil Engineer and Engineering Technicians.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program required.
Must be a Professional Engineer licensed in the State of Wisconsin or be eligible to be licensed in Wisconsin.
Several years of demonstrated experience in designing public improvements utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D in an urban environment
Extensive knowledge of roadway design engineering manuals, standards, and practices
Familiarity of basic practices of traffic engineering, including but not limited to, traffic signal design, street lighting design, traffic data collection, and traffic impact analysis
Knowledge of the principles and practices of public works design, drafting, surveying and construction.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
A valid Driver’s License is required.
