Position Summary:

The Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at Campbell University is seeking a full time, tenure-track assistant or associate professor of mathematics or data analytics to begin in August of 2024. Teaching responsibilities will include a range of courses in data analytics, statistics, and/or lower and upper level undergraduate mathematics in support of the department’s BS programs in Data Analytics and Decision Science, Mathematics, and Mathematics with Teacher Licensure, and the university’s general college curriculum. The successful applicant will be expected to be able to use technology in teaching, to work toward maintaining strong academic programs, to regularly engage in scholarly activity, to serve on university and departmental committees, and to aid the department in other functions such as assessment and student advisement. The successful applicant will also take a leading role in marketing, recruitment, and curriculum development for Data Analytics and Decision Science. Additionally, candidates must support the mission of the University.

Education/Experience: 

A PhD in mathematics, statistics, or a related field or a Masters in data analytics with experience is required. The successful applicant will have a record of (or potential for) outstanding teaching at the undergraduate level, the ability to relate well with students, and the ability to teach students with a wide range of mathematical aptitude.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach courses at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels in a variety of topics within mathematics, statistics, or data analytics.
• Maintain relevant field knowledge of current/best practices and other scholarly activity.
• Direct undergraduate research projects.
• Assist in the development of curriculum as needed.
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
• This position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity and the ability to work within the Christian mission of Campbell University.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to motivate and relate well with students.
• Ability to teach mathematics effectively
• Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn the technology necessary to teach mathematics
• Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials and the public
