Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency, a joint-action electric utility located in Rochester, MN, is looking for an electronics or electrical technician to install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment used to meter, monitor, and control the Agency’s power generation and transmission system.
Primary Responsibilities:
Manage all testing, calibrating, repairing, installing, project specifications, system start-ups, and metering operations.
Procure replacement SCADA and metering equipment, schedule and perform annual meter testing and document the meter testing and any required maintenance.
Maintain equipment records and SCADA and metering wiring diagrams.
Provide twenty-four-hour hardware and software "on-call" responsibilities for the real-time energy management system, which includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
Frequent travel to several electrical substations located throughout the State of Minnesota under a variety of working conditions.
Qualifications for the position:
Two-year degree in electronics, electrician, instrumentation, communication, control systems, similar program, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three or more years of experience working with electrical metering, communications equipment, control systems, or similar electronic devices preferred.
A thorough understanding of AC and DC electrical power required.
Knowledge of maintaining communications networks, electronic instrumentation, or control systems such as PLC’s or SCADA systems preferred.
A strong background in mathematics, familiar with laptop computer programs and basic network concepts preferred.
Must be a self-starter, organized, and be able to work independently without supervision.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Successful completion of criminal/consumer background and alcohol/drug use screening required.
